10 Best DIY Party Favor Projects

If you’re always hosting parties, then coming up with fresh ideas for party favors can be challenging. This article will present unique favor ideas, some of which are for kids and others for adults only.

Superhero Banks
Since most kids have a favorite superhero or movie character, this is an easy party favor to make. Paint some mason jars with a character logo or face and cut a slit in the lid large enough to slide in some change. Put in a couple of quarters to start off each kid’s savings. An easier method is to glue an action figure onto the top of each jar, while still leaving room to cut a slit. You can modify these jars into animal banks by gluing each child’s favorite animal on top instead.

S’mores Kits

While many people try to limit sugar intake, especially after a party full of cake and candy, these kits are simply irresistible. Just fill a jar or cello bag with marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate, and a stick and decorate with a bow or ribbon.

Hot Chocolate Mix

This one is fun for both kids and adults. Mix together sugar, cocoa powder, and salt for the base, then add any powdered flavors you like. You can make an adult version with a personalized coffee blend featuring cinnamon, nutmeg, or vanilla in freshly ground coffee beans.

Mini Zen Garden

For kids who are a little older, mini Zen gardens are a great idea. You can make a child-friendly version where everything is glued down to minimize mess. Take a small, cardboard jewelry box and glue some moss or sand down, then add small stones and plastic plants. If you’re hosting a craft party, this is a great activity for the kids to participate in. They can personalize their gardens with different rock colors, figurines, and plants.

Manicure Jar

This is usually a girls-only party favor filled with disposable nail files, nail polish, stick-on nails, and disposable flip-flops. This kit will not be as expansive as kits for older individuals may be due to items like nail polish remover or nail clippers being potentially dangerous for young girls. Put your kit items in jars or bags and decorate with stickers and ribbon.

Mini Succulents
These can be really unique party favors, especially if you’re planning a garden party. With a little bit of moss, a succulent cutting, and a 2”-5” shaped base of your choice, you’ll have a nice gift to send home with guests. Some of the coolest bases to glue your succulents on include small wood slices, flat agate stones, or tiny glass bowls.

Infused Sugars

If you’re hosting a party for cooking enthusiasts, the following two favors are perfect. To make infused sugar flavors, choose your spice of choice (vanilla, star anise, and lavender are best), fill a jar halfway with sugar, put in a bit of dried lavender or star anise, fill up the rest, close the lid and shake to make sure everything is mixed up. Every few days shake up the jar until 2-3 weeks have passed. Before you give away your infused sugar, make sure to decorate the jars with ribbon.

Spice Rubs

Rubs are a great way to quickly make party favors in bulk. Just dump all the spices together and mix before portioning it out in small jars or bags. The base for any rub should include salt, light brown sugar, and black pepper. Here are the ingredients for some specific variations:

Mediterranean: tarragon, marjoram, rosemary, dill, basil

Indian: turmeric, curry powder, ground ginger, cardamom

Southwestern: cayenne, oregano, thyme, cumin, coriander

Tea Tubes

This one is also a quick and easy party favor. Fill some plastic or glass tubes with your favorite loose-leaf teas and seal them up. You can attach a honey spoon or mug for an extra bit of flair. Be sure to decorate them with paper flowers or ribbon.

Cocktail Kits

Cocktail Kits are a party favor meant specifically for adults that can be a little more expensive. Pair together mini alcohol bottles with a chaser, and allow your guests to do the mixing. Alternatively, you can pack hangover favors that include bottled water, vitamin C tablets, painkillers, and mini power bars.

With so many options to choose from, you’re now capable of tailoring your favors for any party. Whether it’s a birthday, sleepover, dinner party, or something else, you’ll never be at a loss on how to leave your guests with a creative reminder of a great time. A good store for basic party favor supplies is Paper Mart. They have an amazing collection of boxes, bags, jars, and decorations to choose from.
